4 REASONS WHY GOOD IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH IN ENGINEERING

GOOD is a very astonished word – always associated with positive karma’s in life.In a way the word is a big competitor of word BAD so people try to play safe and like to be in corner of GOOD all the time.

GOOD Habits are always better than BAD ones, GOOD people always better than other, GOOD in studies will get you admission in a good college and eventually will help you getting a good paying JOB.

But do these so called good rules apply to an ENGINEER. Somewhat “Yes” but in many ways “No”. So if GOOD is not GOOD enough for Engineers than what actually suits an Engineer. The answer lies in being GREAT at what you do. So that when you do it people will see the spark in you. They would be made to think that you are a breed different from the Normal. In many ways you end up doing things that others just dream they are capable of doing.

So here are few things for teenagers pursuing Engineers must follow to be different from Normal.

   1. CHANGE

Engineering is intimidating, Quite Challenging than other courses available in college. Teenagers who enter engineering are never the same after their 4 years course is completed and they become graduate. But the Question is what  is that change you want to become. What is that change you want to see in yourself. Why should you change?.  Youngsters who end up taking engineering are passionate about their life. Engineering is like a grind. You have to grind for change only then you become a great learner in engineering.

Quick Fix for CHANGE – Find a passion in your desired field  and you will always be enjoying what your learning and that passion will indeed CHANGE your thoughts. These thought will further change your Habits.

   2. HABITS

If you don’t want to suffer miserable situation in Engineering then try changing your Habits. Habits shape life. You become what to repeatedly do. Gone are the days when you use to score good marks in school, Junior college and Classes. Engineering is more about gaining practical knowledge from whatever you read, rather then knowing every answers.

Quick Fix for HABITS- Google that new concept that you learned in college today. Dig deep into something that interests you. Dedicate 15 minutes for these activity of searching(or some productive hobby you like doing) every single day. This small habits will make a BIG difference once you look back at yourself after every 6 months..

Instead of trying to learn few good Habits try neutralizing or giving up some BAD ones.

   3.TIME

Some wise man said “TIME IS MONEY” this phrase suits engineers. Engineers get only 5 month(even less than that sometimes) in every SEMESTER to complete a syllabus that’s really vast. And by the time you think of starting studies you end getting assignment, write ups and what not and you are left with hand full of days to complete an gigantic syllabus .

Quick Fix for Time – Try getting up  1 hour early daily and memorize most of your answers at that time, make a commitment that all your assignments write ups and Practical’s get over during your time in college, bunked lectures and free time during the break can prove quite helpful. So you can save your time during evenings and worki on  some useful engineering projects at Home.

4.GOOD Engineers read Great Engineers DO IT

When was the last time a Good Computer Engineering student built a complex C++,Java or Database Program. When was the last time Electronics and EXTC Engineers design their own PCB that actually produced an output etc etc and the list goes on. A long time back could be an answer for these question.
Good engineering read some new concept in ONE SEMESTER only to forget it in the next SEMESTER. THE GREAT ones built upon whatever they have learned.

Change your MENTALITY. Figure out your BAD habits and try slashing them out of your life . Manage your time well every single day and Aim for Greatness

With all these said it time now to AIM for being Great.

“Learn to say NO to the GOOD
So you can say YES to the GREAT.”

To moving in a new space in Engineering

Engineering the word says it all individuals who have done it may be placed in some big companies a very few of them enjoying higher post in major cooperation  , those in  quest of pursing engineering think it as one of the toughest fields to study. For some it could be a sure fire way of gaining tons of knowledge, acknowlegement by family members and friends  and with knowledge comes money this is the mentality many youth possess and with this desire they enroll for engineering .

But what about the youth who are doing engineer, what do the youth in process of becoming the Next Gen Engineers thinks of other than reading 1000 of pages of books.Scoring good marks, impress their piers, put up a great shows at the college fest or a very few out of the list who are really eager to apply their engineering knowledge during their present days in college. The ones who go out grab an internship or some sort of course which sets them apart from others.

So Hi This is Dinesh Tavasakar an Engineering student and this is my story about how I got my 1st internship during my days in college .

My quest for finding an internship begin during the 6th Sem mainly for TWO REASON’S.
o   It’s when I started thinking that there’s a big world out to explore than to just get stuck in the 400-500 pages of technical book SEM after SEM whose technical KNOWLEDGE we don’t apply anywhere.
o   Wanted to apply that knowledge of Internship in my Final Year Project.
It all started on a Thursday Night(12/4/2012) when I had just come back from the gym and started reading the newspaper in which I came across an ADVERTISEMENT that read “Robot Exhibition" ,Sunday at Thadomal Shahani Engineering College(TSEC), I Thought at that point it would be a good experience to watch this Robo’s and may be I can collect some useful data for my B.E Project as I was thinking of making a project that would have some wireless technology.
14/4/2012-The D-day had finally arrived,I reached TSEC around 9.45am in the morning
15/4/2012(10.00am)-Entered the room where the Robotic Exhibition was held , I was just thrilled when I saw these custom Robot. There were two ladies managing the robots so I Starting interacting with the 2 Ladies, the told me about how these Robots were made, the technology behind them. The information I gathered talking with them was limited and the were in no mood to open up all the details about the Robots, so I noted down some points and left the room after 20min.
15/4/2012(around 10.30am)-Since I was very much curious to know more about wireless technology I went in the room again, and asked the ladies more Q regarding some core Robotics,so they suggested me to talk with this lady called Misses Asha who later went on to become my Boss.
(11am):Misses Asha  seriously 1 of the smartest women Entrepreneur I have meet, very specific about time and every time you talk with her you gain some knowledge and go out,
So 1st I introduced my self to her as a T.E EXTC student who had come to gather info about technology basically wireless technology in Robots and we started conversing, we talked briefly about the existing technology for around half an hour and I gathered tons of knowledge talking with her then during the closing stages of conversation she gave me the option of joining as an Intern as I was pretty much curious about robotics,so I had left the room satisfied knowing that possibly I may have an future internship in hand
9/6//2012-6th Sem Exam’s over.
10/6/2012:Contacted Misses  via e-mail and couple of days later I  got a rply from her saying that she is off to America for 3 week and she had forwarded me her companies number.
15/6/2012-28/6/2012:In the mean time I completed Android course from Rocky’s Jagdiani’s classes
6/7/2012-Well 3weeks have passed so I again sent a mail, tried calling on the number but to no avails.
7/7/2012(Sunday)-Woke up early at 7.30am in the morning with some new hope’s for today,SO instead of wasting time waiting for the mail & calling on companies number, I just sent a message on Companies number at 8.30am giving them all of my personal details again in that message. Then the wait started,

Checked my inbox at 9.00am but no reply, checked again at 10,10.30,11.00,11.30(almost around 100 times seriously) but there was no reply,so at 12.00pm started my PC and just while
I was felling a bit bored a call came on my cell phone with the companies number, Was  nervous to pick up the call, but dared and picked it up.
After talking with them:After some brief talking on the phone, They call me for an interview at around 2.00pm the same day,and it was a total rush because it was already 12.45pm and I had to reach JUHU(as the Robotic firm is based in JUHU) by 2.00pm
2.00pm at CTWorkshop: CTWorkshop was a great place in its own, a place I have seen nowhere else before, It was really 1 of the unique places which I saw during my college days,Quite fascinating because the 1st the time I was seeing how a robot was made mechanically and then programmed for a specific task
The Interview:
I walked in Misses Asha’s Cabin, and to my surprise she had a very good memory as she remembered that I had meet her in TSC,she started asking me the basic Q abt college life and why I wanted to join CT.
mY rEPLY
I want to create my Final Year Project on some sort of wireless technology probably Bluetooth, want to learn about Robotics as probably this is field I am finding my interest lately as it gives you knowledge about mechanics(via its mechanical structure),electronic(circuitry)and lastly programming.
I spent some 2hrs more in CTW just hanging around checking on the stuff, what other coaches over there were working on and then that journey of Internship had  finally begun for me.
There were lots of amazing stuff that had happened between 14/4/2012-7/7/2012 but I have not mentioned them as it would have lengthen the blog.
The sole reason for writing this blog is that many times during college days many friends asked about what I was doing in internship but very few asked me how I got that Internship and  this drived in me the desire to create this blog for the masses.
